LARRY WHEELER'S DIVING HISTORY
A LIFE IN DIVING
A narrative biography for Scuba Quest WI
Larry Wheeler’s diving story begins in 1976, at a time when scuba gear was rugged, training was demanding, and the sport still carried the spirit of exploration. A year later, in 1977, he earned his PADI Open Water Diver certification, unaware that this first step would grow into a five‑decade journey through nearly every corner of recreational and technical diving.

“Larry’s passion for diving is contagious! His classes are incredibly well-organized and full of great detail. One of my favorite memories was our final check-out dive at Devil’s Lake; Larry’s navigation training was so spot-on that I was able to navigate perfectly through low visibility using just my compass. It felt like a real accomplishment!
Larry’s classroom is a great environment where you feel supported and engaged every step of the way. I’ve carried his guidance with me on every ocean dive since. You’ll leave his course not just with a certification, but with the skills to really enjoy the sport.”

Dear Larry, I hope you’re doing well! I just wanted to take a moment to share my experience with you. As a 42-year-old diving newbie, I was a bit nervous about scuba diving since I’m not the strongest swimmer. But I really wanted to bond with my husband over this new adventure during our vacations.
I can’t thank you enough for your patience and all the tips you gave me in class! Because of your support, I felt confident enough to complete the open water course and fell in love with diving.
We just got back from an amazing trip to the Caribbean, where we dived with the operation you recommended. We had a blast! I’m so grateful to you for helping make this incredible experience possible.
Thanks a million!
Warm wishes

Hey there, Larry! I just had to reach out and share my experience with you! As a 55-year-old spouse diving into scuba diving with my husband, I was definitely a bundle of nerves at first. Not being the strongest swimmer made it a bit daunting, especially learning to breathe through the regulator while my face was in the water. But I really wanted to create a fun hobby we could enjoy together on our warm vacation trips. I have to say, you were incredibly patient with me during our classes! I know I could be a handful, but your tips and tricks truly made all the difference. Thanks to your guidance, I finally completed my open water course and found a real love for diving! I’m also excited to tell you about our first warm-water diving vacation in Bonaire! We had such a fantastic time with the dive operation you recommended. The whole week was an absolute blast, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I really can’t thank you enough for making this experience possible for me.
Warm regards and a big thank you!
